"The predictability and accuracy of a digital workflow virtually eliminates the need for remakes, makes considerable savings on lab fees and does away with the additional costs of impression materials. There is also a considerable environmental impact in that we are no longer using numerous plastic trays and large amounts of silicone, all of which has to be disposed of."

Simon Chard, Rothley Lodge Dental Practice

"I am confident that this is the way dentistry is going. There will never be a right or wrong time to buy a digital scanner. My honest advice is to look into digital dentistry seriously, and if you can afford to buy a digital scanner via financing it to make it affordable, then go for it."

Ash Parmar, Smile Design By Ash

"The benefits are huge in patient comfort and people also notice the difference, you’re doing things different to other practices, and they are very impressed to see the digital intraoral scans, being able to see what you can achieve with a full colour scan of someone’s mouth… from a patient education perspective I think its hugely beneficial because patients can see why you are suggesting the treatment you are suggesting… and why it costs what it costs."

Doug Watt, Euston Place Dental Practice

"Because of the erosion of trust in the dental profession caused by negativity in the media in recent years, new patients who haven't had a long-term relationship with you as their dentist can be sceptical about your motivation. With an intraoral scanner, both the dentist and the patient can see exactly what is going on. This immediately builds up trust in your diagnosis and treatment plan because the patient can see very clearly what is needed, which is a big advantage."

Eimear O'Connell, Bite Dentistry Edinburgh

"We think I'll just buy that and that’ll solve all my problems, but nothing can solve your problems, only you can solve them. It's not about the impression material, it's about what you do with it, and it’s the same with digital… the great thing is, there’s great courses and stuff out there now, so people can help you to learn this. Some of it has been exciting to learn over the years, but now people do know how to make this predictable and productive in the practice, so if you commit also commit to a learning experience and then I think you’ll be in good shape.”

Ian Buckle, Buckle Advanced Dental Care

“Having bought a CEREC® 3D ‘redcam’ back in 2006, I have now moved on to an Omnicam and I have to say, its integration with the ORTHOPHOS XG 3D CBCT is outstanding. The Omnicam is much easier to use in terms of quadrant and full arch scanning with graphics that simply leave the patient amazed. This means repeat business is commonplace and you get high-quality restorations that fit every time.

The workflow with CEREC is totally digital so there are no inaccuracies with impressions or model casting. In fact upper and lower scans and bite registration can be carried out faster than it takes a silicone impression to set in the mouth. When you consider the vast investments that dental laboratories are making in CADCAM then you have to question why the whole process starts with an ‘analogue’ impression.”

Simon Belford, Alington Dental, Bournemouth

Avi qualified from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Trust and has a Masters with distinction in Primary Dental Care. His interests include preventive dentistry and minimally invasive smile makeovers including short-term orthodontics. He works with his family in a busy practice in Croydon.

“I’ve always worked hard to put the patient first and improve the patient experience. Over the years new digital technology has helped me to achieve this and it’s fundamentally changed the way I work."

"The precision-fit CEREC brings is in my opinion second to none. I’ve never had such confidence in the fit, occlusion and aesthetics of my restoration and it’s great to have such control in-house."

"Patients are amazed, not only by the natural look of the restoration, but the speed in which I can do things. Some of our busier patients even work whilst their crown is being designed and made."

"Doing many of my crowns and veneers in-house has led to significant savings, not only in cost but in time too. I’ve worked out I save 20 minutes per restoration with CEREC, and over the weeks and months this can amount to quite a few days I get back. I’ve also made some savings in laboratory fees and temporaries."

"Those cases I do outsource to the laboratory – the particularly complex cases – nearly always come back perfect. Because of the improved communications ‘going digital’ brings, it means less impression faults and remakes. My relationship with my laboratory has actually improved as a result and more of my work fits beautifully."

"We’ve increased business as a result of digital dentistry – with patient referrals coming in as well as referrals from other dentists. We have recouped our investment of 2 CEREC milling units in 2 years."

For our practice, digital dentistry is simply the way forward. It’s significantly helped us with our busy working patients.”

Avi Sachdev, Dentist, Gentle Dental Care, Surrey

Stephen was aware that bringing 3D printing in-house would help to reduce costs and speed up production, and so began his search for the most reliable, affordable and accurate 3D printer. He found it in the shape of the Form 2.

“The Form 2 offered a very simple, straightforward and cost-effective way to bring 3D printing into the lab. Almost everything we do now is digitally produced - we’ve removed our old casting machine and now have three 3D printers in operation almost 24-hours a day.”

“We produce a lot of complex implant work and receive multiple cases every day, so our models have to be accurate. The Form 2 gives us that accuracy, producing models from intra oral scanning files across a range of implant systems. As soon as a case is received we can start working on it straight away and while the models are being printed we can design the framework and order the Ti-bases to fit, saving us time and creating a much more efficient operation.”
